iCORE’s proposal review processes are structured
to ensure the unbiased review of all requests.
The processes are tailored specifically for each
grant program, and involve external peer review
at different levels.
The
External Review Committee meets electronically
on an as required basis to process proposals for
major chair and professor awards. To perform an
external review, the ERC will solicit opinions
from a number of non-Albertan referees. These
referees must be experts in the proposed candidate’s
field of research.
The ERC will evaluate a candidate
and produce a report and recommendation based
on the candidate’s research and leadership
record and the opinions of the referees. This
ERC report is given to the IRC to assist in making
a decision on an award.
The
ERC is composed of three to five representatives
from the international ICT research community.
In order to be appointed to the committee, the
individuals must have extensive academic and industry
research experience within ICT.
