Randy Goebel
President and CEO of iCORE |
R.G. (Randy) Goebel is President and CEO of iCORE, seconded from his role as professor and chair in the Department of Computing Science at the University of Alberta. He has previously held faculty appointments at the University of Waterloo and the University of Tokyo, and visiting research appointments with the Deutsche Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI) Germany, National ICT Institute Australia (NICTA), Real World Computing project (RWC), Institute for New Generation Computing (ICOT), Fujitsu Laboratories, Japan, and Multi-Media University (MMU), Malaysia.
He is currently actively involved in academic and industrial collaborative research projects in Canada, Australia, Japan, Germany and Malaysia, and is on the boards of Net-linx, and PRECARN Associates.
Randy’s research is focused on the theory and application of intelligent systems. He is a researcher in the Alberta Ingenuity Centre for Machine Learning, located at the University of Alberta. His theoretical work on abduction, hypothetical reasoning and belief revision is well known, and his recent application of practical belief revision and constraint programming to scheduling, layout, and web mining is now having industrial impact.

Lynn Sutherland
Vice President Programs |
Lynn Sutherland works in policy, strategy and research management in information and communications technology. She is currently Vice President, Programs for iCORE. Previously, she worked at the Alberta Research Council for 15 years and managed the Advanced Computing and Engineering Department, a group of over 40 applied researchers in artificial intelligence, robotics, visualization, collaborative technologies and massive database systems. Lynn was a key member of the task force who prepared the report, Information and Communications Technology: A Strategy for Alberta, in 1998. This strategy has led to the current Alberta government investment in ICT education, research, infrastructure, and business development. Currently, Lynn is on the Board of Directors of Netera Alliance, Alberta's high-speed research network, and Calgary Council for Advanced Technology (CCAT), and is the Gala Chair for the Alberta Science and Technology (ASTech) Awards.

Sho Sengupta
Director of Communications |
Sho Sengupta joined on as the iCORE Communications Director July of 2005. Her expertise includes brand and communications strategies for advanced technology products to widely distributed global markets, as well as creating demand for personal, lifestyle products. Prior to joining iCORE, Sho developed and executed corporate branding and marketing communications programs to a number of Calgary-based technology companies including zed.i solutions, Control-F1 Inc., now owned by Computer Associates, and EFA Software.

Carole Carlton
Office Manager |
Carole Carlton is the office manager for iCORE. She also coordinates the annual iCORE Banff Summit. Previously, Carole worked for Nortel Networks in Calgary as a Facilities Manager. She coordinated capital projects, contract management, web support and special events.

Terry Ross
Business Officer |
Terry Ross is iCORE's Business Officer. Since joining the team in September
2006, Terry oversees iCORE's business operations. His expertise includes new
venture development in the high-technology industry, early-stage financing
and youth entrepreneurship. Prior to joining iCORE, Terry worked at the
Department of Innovation and Science managing economic immigration programs
and analyzing policies for facilitating access to early-stage capital for
technology ventures.

Lilly Wong
Programs Officer |
Lilly Wong is iCORE’s Programs Officer. Lilly is responsible for proposal and contracts administration as well as administering the graduate student scholarship program. Lilly has worked in IT development in the energy, financial and transportation industries. She received a BSc in Computer Science in 1978 from the University of Calgary and is currently involved with setting up a chapter of the University of Calgary Alumni Association for Computer Science.

Fred S. Stewart
Director of Corporate Relations |
Fred Stewart has acted as a consultant to clients primarily in Alberta's advanced technology sector since 1993. His services include corporate communications and positioning, government and community relations. Prior to 1993, Fred served two terms as a Member of the Legislative Assembly with portfolio responsibilities as Minister of Technology, Research and Telecommunications and Government House Leader. He entered public life after practising primarily corporate and commercial law with a firm that he founded in Calgary.
Fred serves as Chair of the Calgary Research and Development Authority, is a Board member of Calgary Inc., and is a founding member of the Alberta Information Technology Association. He also serves as Chair of Netera Alliance, a not-for-profit Alberta consortium providing high performance networking and computational services as part of the national high speed broadband network system. He is a member of an Advisory Committee to the Minister on Information and Communication Infrastructure and sits on the Boards of several high technology companies.
In 1999, Fred was granted a Special Award by the Alberta Science and Technology Foundation for his contribution to Alberta's advanced technology community.

Aileen Gautron
Communications Officer |
As the Communications Officer for iCORE, Aileen Gautron’s main responsibilities are the technical production of the iCORE annual research report, e-newsletter, ads and maintenance of the iCORE website. Aileen completed a Bachelor of Applied Communications in 2004, majoring in electronic publishing -- working with desktop publishing, web development and multimedia. Aileen's expertise includes graphic design, web design, photo editing, and page layout, and she has worked with a number of ICT companies developing their logos and annual reports.

Meg Mendoza
IT Consultant |
Meg Mendoza develops and maintains iCORE's databases, intranets, and other IT projects. Meg is trained in mathematics (BSc) and computer science (MSc), interested in knowledge modeling and object orientation, and has many years of experience in research and industry.
